Brett Dickie Photojournalist
School: University of Michigan- Flint Hometown: Clarkston, MI
Brett is a Michigan native hailing from the beautiful community of Clarkston.
He has always had a life-long fascination with television and film. As early as twelve years old, Brett was shooting and editing “suspense-filled home movies”, using his little sister and cousins as actors. This passion led him to the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan, studying the art of filmmaking.
Obtaining a college education was always in Brett’s sights. He graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint at the top of his class in 2006, being nominated for the Maize and Blue award and inducted into the Golden Key International Honors Society. He interned at NBC 25 that May, and was hired in as an editor a little over a month later.
Eager to learn everything he could, Brett would soon take on the role of photojournalist. Being out in the community and telling the people’s stories through the lens became very natural to Brett. Being a part of the Travel Mid-Michigan team, Brett’s talents flourished as he toured the area highlighting interesting people, businesses and beautiful destinations. The series was recognized as Best Documentary by the Associated Press in 2009.
Brett is now very proud to say that you can catch him every morning on NBC 25 Today from 5a.m. to 7a.m. as he broadcasts live, from behind and in front of the camera! He loves to wake up every morning with community covering fun, interesting and heartwarming stories.
Brett is also an avid guitarist and percussionist having played in the Clarkston symphonic and marching band (and of course garage bands). He enjoys writing, traveling, boating and rooting for the Detroit Lions every Sunday with his several close friends and family.
If you would like Brett to come out and broadcast live with your business, organization, family or friends, drop him a line!
