2012 marks Michael’s 29th year in television news. A Michigan native, Michael has lived and worked in this great state his entire life. He claims Gaylord as his home town but has lived in Escanaba, Big Rapids, Midland, Grand Blanc, and Birmingham.
Michael is no stranger to this area. Prior to joining the NBC 25 news staff he worked in newsrooms in mid and southeastern Michigan, spending 12 years in Midland, Saginaw, Flint, and Bay City. He started his television career with an internship in the studio at Dow Chemical’s corporate headquarters and soon after took his first news job. His career also led him to Detroit where he received major market and network experience. He says he still enjoys smaller news markets and local news the most.
As a photojournalist, Michael has earned EMMY, UPI, AP, Detroit Press Club and MAB awards, in addition to photography credits on National EMMY and Peabody winning news stories. The news business, says Michael,” has provided me great opportunities, I have met presidents, traveled to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and traveled the Great Lakes on a freighter but still my biggest pleasure is meeting ordinary people with extraordinary stories to tell.
In his spare time Michael enjoys spending time with his son Christian kayaking, camping, backpacking and mountain biking. His favorite place is this great state, primarily northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula; the Ausable and Two Hearted Rivers, Grand Marais, and the Porcupine Mountains.
