SEBEWAING -- Michigan State Police are investigating an early morning shooting involving an officer.

The shooting happened yesterday around 7:30 a.m. when officers responded to a shots-fired call near the 100 Block of Young Street in the village of Sebewaing in Huron County.

When members of the Sebewaing Police Department, the Huron County Sheriff's Department and MSP troops out of the Caro Post arrived, they saw someone run from a house.

Police set up a perimeter of the area, but when a 66-year-old man emerged from the house and fired shots, officers were forced to return fire.

It's not known how badly the suspect was hurt, but police say his injuries aren't life-threatening.

The case is being examined as a felonious assault and has been handed to the Huron County prosecutor to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.

No officers were hurt.

The trooper is on administrative leave while the incident remains under investigation.
