Coming home to find out that your home has been burglarized can be traumatizing, however you must try to keep a clear head and act in a manner to protect yourself and your family.
Active Crime Scene
Do not enter the home. When possible, have your family wait in a neighbor’s home or locked in your vehicle. The burglar may still be on the premises and should be considered dangerous.
Call the police as soon as you are in a safe location.
Do not touch anything in the home before police arrive. Your home is now a crime scene and anything you disturb could destroy evidence.
When police arrive assist them with answering questions while they investigate the scene.
After Investigation
Contact your insurance agency.
Once the police have released the scene you should do a walk through with your family. Make a detailed list of all items stolen. Once you have your list go through photos and try to locate images of the stolen items. (If you created an insurance file with images of valuables in advance this will help) The list and photos need to be provided to the investigating police and your insurance agency.
Next, call Westec Security Network. We will meet with you to review your security needs and develop a security system to help protect you from future break-ins.
