Karaoke

Everyone can sing, right? Or are you someone who is better off carrying luggage at the airport as opposed to a tune? For those of you who want to best Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” the preferred vehicle is available at most Pubs on a Saturday night- it’s Karaoke.

Karaoke first hit the United States around 20 years ago after years of popularity in Japan. The more who participate, the better. Nothing makes a pub come alive than the strains of “My Way” by a local who spends her week doing data entry. Or, the carpenter belting out “I’ve got friends in low places” only to be followed by an insurance salesperson’s rendition of “I will Survive.”

What makes Karaoke so much fun is the camaraderie it instills. For some, it takes a mighty amount of courage to get up on a stage before a crowded establishment. For others, it allows a vicarious outlet for the pop star within. No need to be afraid. This isn’t America’s Got Talent or American Idol. Rather than get your performance panned or get a low score, your friends and co-workers will likely buy you a cold beverage when you finish your routine.

So get in on the fun this weekend at Firkin & Fix. Get out of the “Nine to Five” and put on your “Blue Suede Shoes.” Karaoke- it’s fun.
