FREELAND -- MBS International Airport is getting some kudos.

The Michigan Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics is honoring the Mid-Michigan airport as the 'Airport of the Year'.  The annual awards recognize outstanding service to Michigan aviation.

The awards honors the airport for the new $55 million dollar terminal that opened in October of 2012, a year ahead of schedule.

MDOT says the terminal "benefits not only Midland, Bay City, and Saginaw areas, but the entire Michigan airport system"

This is the 22nd year for the award.
