Dow is offering to test and replace the soil on hundreds of other properties in the Dioxin Resolution Area - a total of about 1,700 acres. Properties that test above an EPA-approved level of 250 parts per trillion of dioxins will be offered cleanup and re-landscaping. If the property owner chooses to forgo cleanup, Dow will set aside money for future work.

Dow Chemical Company says it is offering to buy 50 properties near its manufacturing site and clean up nearly 1,400 more. All of this because Dow contaminated the soil with dioxins at the turn of the century up until 1930. According to the World Health Organization dioxins are highly toxic environmental pollutants that can cause reproductive problems and even cancer.
