MT. PLEASANT -- A 47-year-old Mt. Pleasant man faces 80 years in prison after being convicted of domestic assault, among other charges.

Samuel John Pego was convicted Thursday of the following charges: Unlawful imprisonment, domestic assault by a habitual offender, assault causing serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon and witness tampering.

According to a release, Pego struck a victim in the head and then threatened the victim with a knife.

The incident happened on the Isabella Reservation in Mt. Pleasant between July 12 and 14, 2012.

The U.S. Department of Justice says cracking down on violent crimes on tribal lands is an important priority.
