In 1930, when the hotel overlooking Lake Superior first opened, a librarian in Marquette fell in love with a sailor. He was set to make his final journey at sea before coming home to marry her, but the ship and her crew never returned to land. The librarian is said to still haunt the Lilac Room at the hotel which overlooks the lake. She is thought to be keeping an eye out for her love's return to the harbor. Male guests report that keys have not worked in the doors, calls have been made to the room in the middle of the night, and staff reports getting calls from the room with no one staying there.
