TITTABAWASSEE TOWNSHIP (AP) -- The loss of a direct flight from Michigan's MBS International Airport to Orlando, Fla., apparently won't stop plans for building a new terminal.

MBS is in Saginaw County's Tittabawassee Township and serves the Midland-Bay City-Saginaw area.

Allegiant Air announced Wednesday that it was stopping direct service from MBS to Orlando-Sanford International Airport.

The Las Vegas-based airline launched the service in November, but spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler told MLive that there was insufficient demand.

MBS Manager Jeff Nagel says the loss of the service is unfortunate but says it won't stop the planned move to a new terminal next year.

The airport commission approved the move to the new terminal in 2006.

The project is expected to cost between $48 million and $50 million.
