DETROIT (AP) -- Relatives of a mentally ill Michigan man still are waiting for an explanation of why police fatally shot him in a parking lot seven weeks ago.

They have become angrier since CNN aired video showing Milton Hall collapsing in a hail of gunfire in Saginaw on July 1. The video shows police confronting the 49-year-old in a parking lot of a shopping center and ordering him to drop a knife. It's not clear if he did.

Hall's mother, Jewel Hall of Rio Rancho, N.M., calls the shooting "barbaric."

The U.S. Justice Department and the Michigan State Police are investigating the shooting, but little information has been released so far.

Hall family lawyer Debra Freid says she plans to file a lawsuit against police. She says there was no imminent threat.
