LAKE ORION -- The Grand Blanc Bobcat soccer team is one win away from an MHSAA Division One state title after beating Utica Henry Ford 2-0 Wednesday night.

Senior forward Dominic Mastromatteo scored twice in the second half while freshman goalkeeper Pearce Skinner made every save en route to the state semifinal win.

"I've always been dangerous in the air," Mastromatteo said about his first goal, a header. "I knew that eventually we'd get one in if I got my full head on it."

Grand Blanc coach Greg Kehler expected nothing less from his senior.

“It’s been like that the whole tournament which has been big for us,” Kehler said about Mastromatteo’s performance.

In Saturday’s final, the Bobcats will face East Kentwood, the state’s top ranked team. Coach Kehler jokingly compared the Falcons to F.C. Barcelona but said his Bobcats would be up for the challenge.

“We’ll be ready,” Kehler said. “We’re looking forward to it.”
