FLINT -- Flint school board members met for some annual housekeeping Wednesday evening, during their yearly organizational meeting.

It was also the first official board meeting since new interim Superintendent Larry Watkins started last week.

Watkins said his priorities include tackling the $4 million budget deficit, improving academics and school safety.

“I am looking forward to that challenge,” Watkins said.  “I know I can't do this by myself.  We have to involve all the stakeholders, from our students, parents, community and business community as well."

At Wednesday’s meeting board members re-elected Antoinette Lockett as board president and welcomed new board member, Roneeka Pleasant-Brown.
