FLINT -- Flint police and city leaders hosted a panel discussion, inviting community members to hear how they plan to make the city safer.

Flint Police Chief Alvern Lock was among the panelists.

The theme of the night was community involvement when it comes to fighting blight and crime. The panel urged citizens to become involved in activities such as neighborhood watch programs.

Pastor Latrelle Holmes said that creating an appealing atmosphere in the city can help local youth and keep them out of trouble.

Chief Lock also said that the next generation 911 system is on its way.  The system will allow people to text pictures and information to 911.
