Genesee County Animal Control has ended its volunteer program. Volunteers were asked to design and implement a new program, several weeks ago, by the center's chief, Walk Rodabaugh. When that failed to occur, Rodabaugh took action. Rodabaugh has proposed an ordinance which would grant Animal Control officers more power. These are paid/union employees. There are (5) of them.
Since the volunters walked the dogs and there are no more volunteers, there is no one to currently walk the dogs. Volunteers fear this will lead to what's called "cage rage".
According to Angela Alexander-Roth, the founder of Alley Cat Angels, this move has upset the volunteers and they're taking action on Facebook. They also plan on speaking out at a Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday morning at 9.
