MONITOR TOWNSHIP -- The Bay County Sheriff’s department is investigating the deaths of a man and a woman after their bodies were discovered in a Monitor Township home Wednesday afternoon.

A sheriff’s lieutenant on scene tells NBC25 the bodies were discovered around 3:43 p.m. at 1018 E. Midland Road by the son of the female victim.  Both of them apparently died of gunshot wounds.  Authorities said they appeared to be in their 50s.

The Michigan State Police crime lab was investigating the scene as of 10 p.m.

The Bay County Sheriff's department is planning to hold a press conference Thursday.
