	NBC25 is reaching out this holiday season to help those in need, and we're welcoming the community to join us. We are partnering with Dort Federal Credit Union to gather non-perishable food items to donate to the Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties Soup Kitchens. Catholic Charities runs three soup kitchens and three sack lunch programs throughout Genesee County. Last year, they served nearly 156,000 meals- a 10% increase over the previous year. At the same time, approximately 80% of Catholic Charities' funding has been cut. To kick off the events on December 6th, NBC25 went live from the Food Pantry. Founded in 1941, the organization serves more than 30,000 individuals and families in need each year. Catholic Charities offers a range of services, including: counseling, prevention/education and substance use treatment; adoption and foster care services; community services including three soup kitchens, three sandwich program sites, free summer camp, and a community closet and a warming center. Catholic Charities is currently working to renovate the Center for Hope, a 65,000 square-foot space dedicated to providing a one-stop community center for services to those in need.
