There are about 50,000 individuals in Michigan living with autism. Until late 2012, insurance companies denied coverage for evidence-based treatments for autism spectrum disorders. Insurance reform is expected to save the state billions of dollars as autistic children are able to get the treatment they need to become independent citizens.
