Michigan lawmakers are coming together, trying to remove K2 from store shelves. The judiciary committee has introduced four bills banning the drug and two of them are now on their way to the house.

K2, or often called Spice, is a plant that is sprayed with a chemical and results in the user getting high. In hopes of stopping the drug from getting worse in Genesee County, the Fenton chief of police sent out a letter pleading to ban K2 at area businesses.

Senator Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge, was outraged when he learned that Governor Jennifer Granholm in late December signed a package of bills aimed at eliminating lengthy minimum sentences for minor drug crimes. One of the amendments in a bill lifted the penalties for possessing dangerous synthetic drugs sold as incense.

It is sold as incense, but it is not burned for its fragrant smoke. Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says young people are smoking it to get a dangerous high.
