At 12:10 am on June 15th 2013, Officers responded to the area of S. 5th and Burt reference shots fired. Once on scene, officers located a 44 year old female who had been shot.

18 police officers and 15 firemen are being laid off in Saginaw. Notices of the layoffs are being made February first and the positions eliminated July 1st. City manager Darnell Earley remains confident the city will be protected.

Saginaw Assistant City Manager Phil Ludos is asking the county to consider taking over police operations in light of a $3.2 million budget shortfall for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Ludos says without a deal, he would be forced resort to layoffs, and the city would have to operate with 55 police officers and 35 firefighters.
