It was a sad day in America last Friday as Hostess officially closed it's doors and ceased baking, leaving favorites like the Twinkie in serious jeopardy.

However there maybe hope for snack lovers. While several American firms are in the running to purchase the Twinkie, the most serious buyer could be Mexican-based Grupo Bimbo.

ConAgra and Flowers Food - the American company in charge of running Nature Valley granola also showed interest in Hostess, along with Little Debbie.

Grupo Bimbo ist he world's largest bread-baking firm and already owns parts of Sara Lee, Entemann's and Thomas English Muffins.  They previously made an offer of $580 million a few years ago to purchase Hostess, according to Forbes.

Now, Hostess may only be worth reportedly $135 million.

According to NBC Latino, high sugar prices tied to U.S. trade tariffs were a big reason Hostess was struggling, but a Mexican company could be a lifeline for Twinkies because it would be able to take advantage of access to lower-priced sugar in Mexico.

While Hostess was clearly having issues with their business plan, analysts believed Grupo Bimbo had their eye on the company for the past decade because it saw Hostess as crucial for North American expansion.  Hostess has delivery routes that penetrate across the country into convenience stores, gas stations and grocery markets, according to Forbes.

If the Twinkie is outsourced to Mexico, will it change the way you feel about the cream-filled snack?  Will you still buy it?
