(AP) -- GOODRICH, Mich. - The principal of Goodrich High School won't make it to graduation this spring. Instead, David St. Aubin will be serving in Iraq as a military police officer for one year.
The Flint Journal reports the 47-year-old lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves told students and parents in a letter about his deployment. He is to depart next month.
St. Aubin says it won't be easy to leave the school where he's been principal for five years. He's watched students take top academic honors and win state championships in wrestling and soccer. But St. Aubin says he wants to give back to his country. He has served in the military for 24 years.
Senior Niccole Hill says St. Aubin's letter was "super-sad."
