LANSING (AP) -- A group of Democratic state lawmakers again is calling for a Michigan law to require health insurance companies to provide better coverage for autism.
House members on Wednesday talked about bills they have introduced at the state Capitol. Legislation also has been introduced in the Senate.
The bills would require insurers to cover some types of autism therapies that families typically now pay for out-of-pocket.
Similar legislation stalled last year. The plan is opposed by those who say more mandated insurance coverage would raise the cost of health care plans for businesses and residents.
The House last week passed legislation that would create a fund to promote autism research. Taxpayers could voluntarily donate to the fund.
