LANSING -- How would a possible sequester affect you? Newly-released statistics from the White House detail which Michigan programs would be hit the hardest come March 1.

First, there was the fiscal cliff that Congress narrowly avoided before the New Year and now Congress must act to avoid the sequester--a set a across-the-board spending cuts that would affect military, education, health services and programs for seniors.

Democrats and Republicans are set to present opposing plans this week to avoid the cuts which would go into effect Friday.

The White House detailed how the nation-wide $85 billion cuts would affect each state in a document released Sunday.

In Michigan, military and education would be hit the hardest. According to the release, the state would lose $22 million in funding for primary and secondary education.

10,000 civilian Department of Defense employees would be furloughed reducing pay by $67.7 million.

In total, the White House reports Michigan would lose $140 million under the cuts.
