There’s no place like home for the holidays and this Christmas two Mid-Michigan families will know what it feels like to own a home. NBC25 is helping Dort Federal Credit Union give away two homes mortgage free this month, and we got a sneak peek inside.
When NBC25 took a good look around the home in Davison, it had been refurbished from top to bottom with new ceilings, floors, appliances, cabinetry, countertops and more. It’s all waiting for a local family in need of a break and looking for a fresh start.
“I get very choked up talking about it; it’s just something to be so proud of in our community. Dort, our employees and our board can all be proud” said Jenny Ludwigen, Director of Marketing at Dort. She told NBC25 that she’s been overwhelmed by the stories of those in need from neighbors right here living in Mid-Michigan. “The applications we’ve received run the gambit of health crisis, loss of spouse, you name it and these families have experienced it.”
On December 22, two families will have an experience of a different kind. One family will be given the keys to the home in Davison. The other to a home in Flint, where once again the entire home has been refurbished from top to bottom, it even has a huge new edition. “This is like a new house, all new drywall, plaster, everything” said contractor Sam Morgan and his crew spend their days here now, but in a very short time it will be home to a family.
It will be an exciting way to start the Christmas week and what a way to begin the New Year.
Several months ago Dort Federal Credit Union’s board of directors decided to make the home give-away this year’s project to give back to the community. Their employees also jumped on board asking if they could help stock the fridge, decorate and clean.
On December 22 NBC25 will be live for the home give-away and until then, we’re going to be updating you on the homes as they’re finished up for the new families to move-in.
