Parents and guardians of children who have received the recalled H1N1 vaccine are being told not to worry. The Centers for Disease Control reports 800,000 swine flu vaccinations intended for children ages six months to 35 months old have been recalled across the U.S. Recent tests show the vaccines manufactured by Sanofi Pastuer show the vaccine lost some of its potency over time.
Out of the 800,000 recalled vaccinations, more than 17,000 ended up Michigan.
In Mid-Michigan Bay, Saginaw, Genesee, Isabella, and Lapeer County Health Departments received shipments.
NBC25's medical expert Dr. Bobby Mukkamala wants to reassure parents and guardians that children who were vaccinated with any of the recalled vaccines are safe and will not need to be revaccinated for that particular dose.
"Don't worry about a thing," Dr. Bobby says. "If you have gotten shots already (for your children) you're done. If not, then go back and get the second one like you're supposed to do anyway. There is nothing to worry about here and as far as recalls go, this is the best kind to have."
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the recall, you're being told to contact your primary doctor or your local health department.
