FLINT -- Many across Mid-Michigan marked Martin Luther King Junior Day by donating blood.

Nearly a hundred people turned out at the University of Michigan Flint Monday

The university has been teaming up with the American Red Cross for more than 20 years to put on this drive.

Organizers say they hope this event helps keep up the spirit of giving on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

"Our theme for this year's event was 'heal the community, save the dream.' And having people come out and mobilized in unison today is a good step forward to making that dream," said Director of Student Life Jessie Hurse.

Monday's event is just one of many "Share the Dream of Life" blood drives.

There will be several more in Dr. King's honor in the coming days.
