NBC25 is partnering with Two Men and a Truck to help struggling moms throughout Mid-Michigan. The collection drive, "Movers for Mom" will benefit the Underground Railroad of Saginaw and the Bay Area Women's Shelter.
The students at North Saginaw Charter Academy helped kick off the third-annual event Monday.
"I donated a potato masher for cooking supplies and I donated disinfective wipes for cleaning supplies," student Desmond Baugh said.
Two Men and a Truck in Bay City is behind the collection effort to help women and children at shelters in the area.
"We came up with this three years ago because there was a need for women in bad situations," said Ashley Anderson of Two Men and a Truck. "They literally have to leave their environment without anything, no clothes on their back."
Mary Sue Barry at the Underground Railroad of Saginaw says they help thousands of women and children every year, There are at least 50 families who need help right now.
"I mean imagine walking into a brand new apartment and there's nothing there and you need everything from silverware to toilet paper," Barry said.
"We're always in need of personal items and cleaning supplies," Debbie Keim of the Bay Area Women's Shelter said.
Everyone can help with the collection effort. Look for the big white box in your area to drop off donations. All donations will be delivered to womens shelters just in time for Mother's Day.
