Veterans and community supporters gathered in Bridgeport to honor its community's servicemen.
The event took place at the Bridgeport Historical Society in Bridgeport Township, where the organization dedicated 22 of its local troops.
"We've got...nine from the Civil War era; we have 10 from the World War II era--one from the Korean War era, and two from the Vietnam era," said retired Command Sergeant Major Paul DeSander.
Visitors participated in the National Anthem, an invocation from a local Chaplin, and remarks by Major General Thomas Cutler.
"Americans made the ultimate sacrifice so their children could live in a world ruled by the principles of freedom," said Major General Cutler.
A week shy from Memorial Day, the society isn't waiting to pay tribute to its servicemen. Veterans said the most important factor is that people remember the sacrifices of our troops.
"We forget that we are at war right now, and we have soldiers serving every day at war doing their best and sacrificing their all," said DeSander.
The historical society dedicated a memorial wall for war veterans in honor of those who served in the Civil War, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. The memorial monument can be viewed by the public at the Bridgeport Historical Society's dedication site on Dixie Highway.
