(AP) -- DETROIT - There will be no boot camp for former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

A Wayne County judge is barring Michigan prison officials from placing Kilpatrick in a program that would have released him before the end of his 14-month sentence.

In his order Monday, Judge David Groner said a 90-day boot camp is for "positively intervening in the lives of youthful offenders." Kilpatrick is 40.

Groner says he carefully considered Kilpatrick's punishment for violating probation before ordering prison in May. Prison officials recently sought the judge's views on boot camp.

A message seeking comment was left for the ex-mayor's lawyer, Arnold Reed. Prosecutors opposed boot camp.
