FLINT -- The first light-duty pickup truck has rolled off the line at Flint Assembly line. The 2 door and 4 door Chevy Silverado light-duty trucks are the newest line at the Mid-Michigan plant. They were previously assembled in Mexico, but production began this week in Flint.
The assembly was scheduled to begin Monday, but parts plants in the southern part of the U.S. and in Mexico have been hit by Hurricane Alex, causing a delay in shipments.
The light-duty production at Flint Assembly will account for about 15 percent of the plant’s total production. The rest is heavy-duty production.
Flint Assembly is supplementing production of light-duty production in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Silao, Mexico.
General Motors has invested more than $21 million in Flint Assembly for this new production line.
