This afternoon fans filled the bleachers at the Flint Iceland Arena. They were trying to get a peak at the future of Flint hockey.

Fifty-four young men took the ice for their final shot at making Flint's new Michigan Warrior hockey team. The prospects came from all over the country to compete for a place on the team.

"These young men are looking for an opportunity to live their dreams," said Michigan Warriors General Manger and Head Coach Moe Mantha.

The team just moved to Mid-Michigan from Marquette where they had been for four years.

The upcoming season will be played at the newly renovated Perani Arena. Michigan Warriors President and Owner Pat McEachern says fans can expect to see improved concessions, new bright lighting, and fresh paint.

He also says he is confident that the team's success will continue at their new home. They recently recruited a promising new goalie from named Robert Tadazak.

"They gave up a lot for me so ya know ya gotta bring it," says the 20-year old Lapeer native.

Another player, 19-year old Dave Johnson thinks the move to Flint will create more opportunities for the players.

"It's easier for the scouts to come to Mid-Michigan instead of all the way up in the U-P."

Michigan Warriors President and Owner McEachern knows the type of player scouts look for on the ice.

"They're looking for character, commitment to the community, academic standing, and stability.  When they bring them into their program they want a real solid person not just a hockey player."

McEachern is confident that his team is more than just talented athletes.
