 Update at 2:55 p.m.

The suspected serial killer who terrorized Genesee County and communities in Virginia and Ohio got in trouble with the law in Genesee County just last month.

According to 67th District Court records on July 29, 2010 Elias Abuelazam was charged with furnishing and selling alcohol to a minor.   He worked at an area party store.  

His only other legal issue on record in 67th district court is a traffic violation.  In December 1994 he got a ticket for running a red light.   


Update at 11:45 a.m.

NBC25 has learned an arrest warrant has been issued for Elias Abuelazam in connection to the serial killings.

While no other details of Abuelazam are being currently released, NBC25 is told more information will be given by Michigan State Police in a press conference at 2:00 p.m.

Abuelazam was allegedly arrested in Atlanta, Georgia.  The serial killer suspect was apparently attempting to board a Delta Airline Flight to Tel Aviv.

Abuelazam is believed to be an employee of the Kingwater Store located at 1341 west coldwater in Flint, MI.  A manager, Abdulla Farah, tells us "Eli" was a good employee and had only been working there about a month. 

The serial killer is wanted for at least 16 stabbing crimes. Thirteen people were stabbed in the Flint, MI area. Five of those stabbing victims have died. At least three crimes were in Leesburg, VA. One person was stabbed in Toledo, Oh.

We are following breaking news where sources tell NBC25 they believe they have caught the serial stabber in Atlanta trying to flee the country.

Police in Leesburg, Va., said in a statement early Thursday the man was arrested late Wednesday and was being held on unrelated charges.

We know they have executed search warrants in Flint, Burton and Grand Blanc.

Sources say they found the suspect’s car in Grand Blanc.

Genesee County Authorities will be holding a press conference Thursday at 2 p.m.

Police say the suspect worked at the King Water Party Store, in Beecher, located north of Flint.

Authorities say a public tip lead officers to the suspect.

US Customs: says the suspect was arrested at Atlanta airport trying to fly to Israel, perhaps Tel Aviv.

Recent reports say the suspect will go before a judge in Atlanta today, to be extradited to Flint to face murder charges.

Officer Chris Jones from the Leesburg Police department says, "A person of interest was taken into custody, he is currently being held on unrelated charges. While this is a key step in the investigation there are still many issues that need to be addressed before we identify this individual as the person responsible for this horrific crime spree."
