PORTSMOUTH TOWNSHIP -- About 125 automotive jobs are on the way to industry supplier Renosol Corporation in Bay County’s Portsmouth Township. The positions are made possible in part, thanks to $3.1 million dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (also known as the stimulus package), and will help with the company’s expansion efforts.
Bay County’s Board of Commissioners approved the spending of that money during a Tuesday night meeting. The jobs will be in place in five years. Renosol is based in Saline, near Ann Arbor and specializes in producing leaf springs for vans and light, medium and heavy duty trucks.
“The jobs in the future are not going to be for simple manufacturing but the high-end stuff like leaf springs. That’s stuff we can certainly do here,” said Chairman Brian Elder.
Renosol supplies parts for a majority of the American automakers. Bay Future, the county’s economic development arm, helped secure the job creation project.
