BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP -- Governor Jennifer Granholm praised what she called the latest innovation in solar technology: the first utility wind turbine built in Michigan. Merrill Technologies Group in Buena Vista Township built the Northern Power Systems 2.2 wind turbine thanks in part to tax credits from the state and federal governments.
Granholm said the tax incentives means Michigan can, “lead the nation in producing competitive, beating the China-price wind turbines.”
“I told you in five years you’d be blown away,” Granholm also said in a joke, harkening back to a statement made during a State of the State Address that Republicans later turned into a political football.
Representatives of the family-owned Merrill Technologies Group said they hope this technology allows them to expand their facilities and create more jobs in the long run.
