FLINT -- The family of a murdered six year old boy can rest easier Wednesday night after the suspect turns himself in.
Police say without the publicity of this tragic case and the help of several tips, this alleged killer would still be at large.
Police say around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, 25-year-old Davontrae Benton walked into the Flint Police station with his attorney and turned himself in.
Benton's accused of shooting into a vehicle and hitting six-year-old Jonaries Holden Monday night.
Holden later died at a hospital
Police say the violent act was brought on by a $60 debt Holden's father owed Benton.
Benton faces multiple charges, including open murder.
Even though Flint's 55th homicide is on its way to being a closed case, the chief of police says no one's celebrating.
"Understanding the circumstances under which he turned himself in, you have to feel sorry because no one really wins in this situation," said Flint’s Chief of Police, Alvern Lock.
Right now Benton is being processed at the Genesee County Jail, and most likely will be arraigned in 72 hours.
Thursday night a candlelight vigil will be held for Holden.
It starts at 7 p.m. on the corner of Flint Park and Aubrey Streets.
