We’ve seen many attempted acts of terror in recent years, the acts prevented often by information.
“It was someone picking up the phone and stopping the catastrophe, the loss of human life,” says Mundy Township Fire Chief Edward Blight.
This week many first responders met at a Michigan State Police forum in Bay City learning how to prevent terror from happening here in mid-Michigan.
“We’re training them what to look for, how to report it, and how to share information in an efficient manner,” says D/F/Lt. Marty Bugbee of the Michigan State Police Intelligence Operations Center.
He says the Michigan State Intelligence Fusion Center based in Lansing works to gather tips from agencies across the state and get information where it is needed.
It is especially important here in Michigan, a state not only vulnerable to domestic terrorism, but international terrorism by way of our more than 700 mile long border with Canada.
Those that participate in the training will take home information to distribute to the public teaching the seven signs of terrorism you need to keep an eye out for.
They are as follows:
1. Surveillance. Someone recording or monitoring activities at possible targets.
2. Elicitation. Anyone trying to get information about possible targets.
3. Tests of Security. Anyone trying to get through security checkpoints.
4. Acquiring Supplies. Anyone buying or stealing weapons, badges, or uniforms.
5. Suspicious Persons.
6. Dry Run. Putting people in place for an attack, without carrying out the actual attack.
7. Deploying Assets. People getting into position to attack.
