GROVELAND TOWNSHIP -- Some businesses may be going down hill in this tough economy.
But as NBC25 found out, profits at a Mid-Michigan ski resort are getting a big lift.
Hit the slopes this winter at Mt. Holly Ski Resort and you'll notice some slick changes.
“We were experiencing banner crowds, actually some of the best crowds we've had in ten years,” said Mark Tibbitts, the General Manager of Mt. Holly.
The general manager says revenue is up 35 percent.
“I think it could possibly be from the economy recovering, but if the economy is not recovering at your household, you may be staying closer to home,” said Tibbitts.
Business is so good; the ski resort spent $750,000 on improvements.
Some include this grand staircase entrance, and a 4,200 square foot patio that overlooks the slopes.
“I really like the improvements, the outside fireplace is great to hang out with friends, and they also have it heated so they don't have to shovel the snow everyday,” said Holly resident, Taylor Dery.
Another change at Mt. Holly Resort, the cost of a lift ticket is now a dollar more.
“That's one of the second highest parts of our business is power, that hasn't taken an idol because the economy has been down,” said Tibbitts.
“It's worth a buck, its incredible the snow, it rained for two days and look at this place,” said Highland resident, Al Kettinger.
When temperatures hit 53 degrees last week, the resort closed over the New Years holiday, losing about $200,000 in revenue.
"The groomers went to work and gave them new snow, something to stick too,” said Tibbitts.
Management says they plan on making more improvements to Mt. Holly Resort, continuing to lift their customer’s expectations.
Other improvements at Mt. Holly include 12 additional snow guns, and a new roof.
