A sign hangs on the door at Mojoe’s Food & Spirit letting customers know the business closed for the day Monday because employees are in mourning.
A beloved employee at the Davison restaurant, 26-year-old Sean Chapin died after an early Sunday morning accident.
It happened on I-75 near Dixie Highway in Grand Blanc Township. Michigan State Police tell NBC25 that Chapin and his friend 36-year-old Jason Rodgers fell out of the bus onto the interstate.
Police say it appears to be a tragic accident, and that the two men simply somehow fell into the bus’ door.
Rodgers survived and is in stable condition.
Police took a look at the bus, and so far have found nothing wrong with the door or latch, but want to be sure. They say Michigan Department of Transportation investigators will be at the Grand Blanc Township Police Department Tuesday to take a look at the bus’ door and latch. They will be working to find out whether it is defective. If they see a problem they will report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Meantime family members of Sean Chapin tell NBC25 they have made arrangements.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Davison.
His funeral is scheduled for Friday at noon at the Life Fellowship Chapel in Davison.
