FLINT -- We’ve been following the inspiring story of a dog named Daisy.
She suffered broken bones and was left to die in the woods a few weeks ago.
Now the Good Samaritan who rescued her wants to say thank you to the hundreds of people who helped nurse Daisy back to health.
This little dog named Daisy has a whole lot of love to give.
Daisy was found by Mary Schaap three weeks ago abandoned in the woods in Genesee Township. She was starved and her leg broken.
“I just felt so bad that that poor dog was out there in the cold, and it was right after that big snow storm,” said Mary Schaap, Daisy’s new owner.
Schaap asked NBC25 for help and created a Facebook page to raise money for Daisy's surgeries.
In no time, people from across the country donated $10,000.
“It’s incredible; I just can't even explain it. It’s been amazing just all the outpouring that we've seen,” said Schaap.
Saturday, Schaap threw a party at the Companion Dog Training Club in Flint to say thank you.
Tina Eisenbeis raised $800 for Daisy and came with her daughters to meet her for the first time.
“I really want them to see what love animals have, and I try to teach them to be kind to animals,” said Eisenbeis.
“She's cute,” said 5-year-old Eden Eisenbeis.
Daisy's recovered nicely in the last couple of weeks, but she's going to need physical therapy for the next few months until she's finally back to normal.
“She really can't do a whole lot yet, but even when she just lays on the couch, she kinda wants to play with a ball, chew on things, but she is just the greatest little dog,” said Schaap.
Its clear Daisy has pawed her way into many people's hearts.
The Companion Dog Training Club gave Schaap a free obedience lesson for Daisy once she's feeling better.
Any extra money donated to Daisy will be given to the Lucky Fund at Michigan State University.
The foundation helps families pay for medical expenses for their pets.
