The attorney for the mom accused of killing her four year old son will be in court for a motion hearing in her case Monday.

Dominick Calhoun died in April last year.  Police say his mother’s boyfriend, Brandon Hayes, tortured him for days before he died.  Hayes faces numerous charges in connection with the child’s death, including first degree murder, child abuse, and torture.

The little boy’s mother is accused of not doing enough to protect her little boy.  Corrine Baker faces child abuse and second degree murder charges.

Trials are scheduled to begin later this month for Baker and Hayes

Baker’s defense attorney Fred Meiers says he hopes the court will approve several motions he has filed.

“Corrine Baker cannot get a fair trial here in Genesee County,” he said.

Meiers says too many people have developed strong opinions on this case by following local news coverage, and the trial should be held in another county.

He is also asking that statements Baker allegedly gave to police be thrown out as evidence, because of how questioning took place.

Another motion filed asks that a battered woman syndrome expert be appointed to look at Corrine’s case.

The hearing to decide all of these issues is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Genesee County Circuit Court.
