Michigan Democrats are trying to reverse the vote that cut jobless benefits by six weeks. According to the Associated Press, the bill presented Monday would restore the unemployment benefits to 26 weeks.

Update: March 28th, 2:20 p.m.Representative Jim Ananich (D-Flint) has issued the following statement on the Governor's bill. “It's a sad day when Michigan, hardest hit by unemployment over the last decade, becomes the first state in the nation to provide less of a lifeline for people out of work through no fault of their own. Instead of focusing on helping people get back to work, the bill passed by Republicans in the Legislature and signed by Governor Snyder today will hurt our local businesses and force more families to leave Michigan just to survive.”
What do you think about the state unemployment cuts?
Governor Rick Snyder has signed the bill that continues federal jobless benefits through the end of the year. This will impact 150,000 Michigan residents. However, the bill reduces state aid by six weeks for new applicants in 2012.
In a statement, Gov. Snyder said, “These benefits are a lifeline for many Michigan families who are struggling in this challenging economy,” Snyder said. “Cutting them off so abruptly would have jeopardized the well-being of those who are trying hard to find work. Now that we have continued this safety net, we must renew our focus on improving Michigan’s economic climate. We will continue driving forward with our job-creating reforms so that fewer people need to rely on unemployment benefits.” You can read the entire statement here.
