BEIJING, CHINA -- Dozens of people just trying to worship this Easter found themselves under arrest.
It happened in Beijing, China.
Witnesses say police blocked as many as 500 worshippers from leaving their homes and arrested 36 who showed up for an outdoor worship service.
They all belonged to a church evicted from its building during a crack down on anyone speaking out against the government.
Church leaders say they don't have a political agenda, but they refuse to let the government tell them how they can worship.
At the Bible Baptist Church on Genesee St. in Saginaw folks enjoyed our country's freedoms while celebrating Easter Sunday.
The pastor there says what is happening in China is a reminder that being able to attend church should not be taken for granted.
“That’s what Jesus died for, the right to live a free life and let everyone know he represents him," said James Moore, a member of Bible Baptist Church.
“I am grateful to be living here and able to worship on Sunday morning. It is a blessing," said Shawn Moore, the Pastor of Bible Baptist Church.
CNN reports that over the past month, more than 200 people who go to that church in China have been arrested and detained.
