April is Organ Donor Awareness Month and hospital officials as well as elected officials are encouraging you to consider becoming one.

Hurley Medical Center hosted an event this morning featuring recipients of donated organs.

Michigan is the 6th lowest state for organ donation.

The secretary of state says it's simple to become a donor and the results can help save a life.

"If you have a drivers license, even if you sign the back of it, that really doesn't count. You're not on the organ donor registry, so please go online or stop off at your local secretary of states and they will put a little red sticker on it for you, says Secretary of State Ruth Johnson.

Holly Wiegand, mother of an organ recipient says, "Some random stranger out there saved my baby's life and I can't thank them enough."

Lapeer County's Representative Kevin Daly recently lost his 23-year-old son, Thomas, in an accident.

Tom's organs were able to be donated.
