Folks joined together to take steps to fight arthritis in Flint this weekend. They took part in the 2011 Arthritis Walk on the University of Michigan-Flint Campus.
“Arthritis is a condition that is the leading cause of disability in this country, and is the leading cause of disability in our community,” said Bruce Hill, CEO of HealthPlus.
The chronic disease affects 31% of the adult population. Funds raised in the walk will go towards research and programs that help those who suffer from the disease.
Hill says HealthPlus employees have come together in friendly competition to raise as much money as possible for this cause.
“We have our employees coming out here both supporting it with fundraising and supporting it in regards to their actions."
The walk also honored 8-year-old Rena Kansek. The Flint Arthritis Walk honoree was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was five. More than 10,000 children in Michigan suffer from arthritis.
