A man whose pitbull bit and seriously injured a 9-year-old boy in January may avoid going to prison.
Harry McDaniel of Bay City took a plea deal, which says he will serve two years probation and 90-days in jail.
His lawyer, Ed Czuprynski, says McDaniel did nothing wrong because he had his dog on a leash and the dog did what was natural.
"He (McDaniel) slipped on some ice, fell, and while down a boy rushed up to him. The dog thinks my client is being attacked, assaulted, and he basically acted to protect his owner," says Czuprynski.
The original charges could have sent McDaniel to prison for up to 15 years.
The boy required 100 stitches and surgery.
