MIDLAND COUNTY -- An EF0 tornado was confirmed on Sanford Lake in Midland County last night. It touched down at 8:51pm. The National Weather Service confirmed the touchdown based on a video taken by 15 year old Alice Kole. She says her family was watching the storm on the deck when they notice the circulation. She grabbed her IPOD camera and tried to hold it steady. The result, and amazing video of the twister coming across the lake and touching down on the lake's surface near the western shore.
A national weather service survey team ruled it an EF0 with winds to 65 MPH. There was some minor damage to a dock and surrounding trees, and amazingly no injuries. There was no tornado warning on a night of otherwise regular storms. NBC 25 meteorologists believe the extremely warm waters of Sanford Lake, due to the recent heat wave, may have enhanced the storm enough to produce the small twister.
