FLINT -- A new class of graduates are enters the working world in Flint.

One-hundred Flint-Genesee job corps graduates celebrated commencement in the vehicle city this afternoon.

More than 300 guests were on hand for the ceremony, which featured an address from State Representative and former Flint Mayor Woodrow Stanley.

The Job Corps is designed to be a “dropout recovery program.” According to the group’s website, it has helped over 2 million “disadvantaged youth complete their high school education and transition into employment or higher education” in the last 45 years of its existence.

After graduation, these students will go on to enter the workforce, pursue higher education, or enlist with the military.

The National Job Corps Commencement Day was celebrated by 123 cities nationwide.
