Campaign begins Oct. 8
SAGINAW -- Saginaw's been called one the most violent cities in America.
Now the group Parishioners on Patrol is taking to the streets to put an end to the violence.
The 100 days of non-violence campaign will kick off next month, but area pastors are already getting the word out.
Pastor Larry Camel says, "Saginaw has been plagued with crime and violence in our community for many years. "
Saginaw has regularly reached the number one spot among violent cities with similar populations. So far this year there have been nine homicides.
Saginaw resident Coletha Barney says, "A lot of violence, breaking into houses, fighting, gang violence because they have no one else to turn to."
Business owners also see it. They are calling on police to do more.
Store owner Jim Rishawmi says, "We need more protection, when we call for help, like call 911 they don't show up right away, maybe sometimes they take half an hour one hour."
Parishioners on Patrol is now aiming to convince everyone that one more act of violence is too much.
