Former deputy accused of allowing prisoner to escape in exchange for sex

TUSCOLA CO. -- A former Tuscola County sheriff's deputy accused of allowing a female prisoner to escape in exchange for sex has taken a plea deal.

Dale Tompkins has pleaded no contest for allowing the 29-year-old prisoner to escape. Tompkins also pleaded no contest to bribery for non-performance of duty.

Both felony charges carry 15-year maximum pentalties.

The incident happened during a transport to the Tuscola County Jail on July 5, 2010. Law enforcement officials were able to track down and catch the inmate.

Tompkins resigned in August. His sentencing is scheduled for December.
